Let me start with my sales person, Mickey. He immediately contacted me after I submitted my plan. He walked me through several points to make the building exactly as I wanted it to be. He was always available to answer questions and promptly returned my calls.
Now for the staff at Custom Built Structures, from the initial contact thru scheduling was very professional and promptly handled. Kaitlin was my main contact for scheduling and she was very upfront on timing and availability of crews. My best resource was "Patience", as you have to understand the time it takes for a project like these. Custom Built Structures was pretty much on target given weather and crew availability.
Best of all was the install crew. George, his Dad and cousin were the absolute example of professionalism, courtesy and efficiency. They called the night before to ask permission to drop of the trailer. They arrived the next morning 15 minutes early and immediately began working. Worked late into a very cold evening using lights, cleaned up before leaving for the evening. Arrived early on an even colder morning and finished by 11 a.m. One issue did arise, they were short several trim pieces. George assured me it was not a problem as his wife had traveled down from Mt Airy to visit her Mom. George had his wife drive back to Mt Airy to pickup the missing material and returned the next day to complete the job. This was after leaving our job and completing another building an hour away. Keep on mind this was all during the Christmas to New year's week of the holidays.
I will not think twice recommending Custom Built Structures to anyone or to use them in the future if needed.

I’ll update my review when/if things become resolved. My order is under Emily Jackson. We were not informed they only come to Indiana if they have enough work lined up, we would’ve gone local had that been the case. We didn’t even know our contract was with custom built, we signed through a third party. We have given this company THOUSANDS of dollars but yet I can’t get a date for install. When in reality, our queue position on the scheduled should have started the day we paid what was requested. Otherwise, why was it needed so urgently? We are paying to have items stored elsewhere that need placed in our barn. Every time our date gets pushed back, we pay more money out of pocket for storage. I have filed a more in depth complaint with the BBB as well. Just give me an install date.

Extremely disappointed. Had to contact Consumer protection agency because they wouldn't schedule the building I ordered because they didn't have other jobs in the area (although they advertised as a "local" company) When they did schedule the installers came but wouldn't drive to my build site because the ground was wet and their trailer was "heavy because it has 3 other buildings on it" I explained that a fully loaded concrete truck had driven there in worse conditions to pour my foundation but they still wouldn't go. Then they told me that the building would constantly leak due to the included skylights. I contacted the company and said I want my money back. Everyone I talk to needs to talk to someone else and they haven't responded further to me in over a week. I'm out over $6000 already and still don't have a building.

My experience with Custom Built Structures was highly unsatisfactory. The project completion extended to several months longer than the initial timeline I was given, and also required persistent effort and follow-up on my part.

A dispute arose when I refused to sign off on the structure while it was visibly unfinished. The owner’s reaction was hostile and unprofessional, which solidified my belief that signing the document prematurely would guarantee the work would never be fully completed.

Immediate quality defects were evident. After the first rainfall, the building developed multiple leaks. While they did eventually install the initially omitted flashing, they failed to properly seal the windows, and would not come back to correct the issue. This resulted in continued water intrusion through the upper window areas that I had to hire someone else to repair.

A little update to the false statements in CBS reply, as it is implied that this was a 1 month build, and clearly all will see it was not.

12.18.23 I paid the deposit and told the build would begin within a month or two and it should only take a few days to complete.

3.11.24 - Started, but said they were sent the wrong windows and had to order the correct ones.

3.18.24 I was asked if they could use my generator since theirs did not work. I let them in hopes of getting this done quicker.

3.28.24 completed the barn except for doors and windows.

6.5.24 I reported the leak from the flashing they did not install. This caused me to postpone the spray foam until they got it fixed.

7.1.24 Doors installed except 1, they didn't install all the bracing so need to come back the next day to finish the last door.

7.2.24 Doors installed but they forgot the weather stripping.

7.15.24 Finally made it back and installed the weatherstripping!

At this point I thought everything was complete and I had the place spray foamed. Anyone who has sprayed a building knows that it can hide leaks sometimes. Well in this case it did, but I did not notice it until 10.1.25, as it's not a place I'm sitting in all day every day especially when it's raining. Water was coming in the same area as it was during the build (that they said they fixed). I called to have it looked at and was told that Custom Built Structures would not look at it since it was out of the warranty time frame.
I had someone else take a look at it and they found what they said was a sloppy silicone job, and it was only applied to 1/2 of each window. He sealed the windows properly and no more leaks!
So if you are looking for a long drawn out process from a poorly run company that not only lies to its customers, but also won't stand behind its work, then buy from CBS!!! Should anyone decide to make the decision to go with this company, I strongly suggest that you DON'T sign anything until the building is 100% done. As you all see, this was a 7 month process with me sending weekly text/emails and calls trying to get stuff done, and that is without signing the paperwork that they want you to sign saying that "the building is complete" even when its not. They asked me dozens of times to sign that form, and I told them each time that as soon as its complete I will sign happily. This will certainly make them mad as they are not getting paid until its done, but just think how long this would have taken to complete if I signed it at the start when they wanted me to and they got their money! Then to top things off, they refused to give me a W9 or a contractor letter so I could get the permit until I signed their form. So CBS is clearly a shady company.

If the reply to my original review was from Alex (the owner) then check your text messages from me on 7.2.24 as a much more detailed breakdown of all this along with several other things you guys dropped the ball on was sent to you (but you did not have a reply to as you know you were in the wrong). Best of luck to you all. I'm just happy this process is over with and I wont ever have to deal with this company again!

They will not warranty there product when it's built outside of NC.i have been waiting since May,told several times crews in route only to be lied too. Now there not returning my call. Leaking roof

Once they get all of their money they ghost you.

Building failed inspection and it's been nearly a month with no word on when they will get a crew out.

I'm left with a building I can't do anything with and they have their money.

Do not buy. Poor communication. Completely waste of money and time

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. They don't evwn exist on the BBB WEBSITE. They are scam artist's. They worked together with Epic steel structures to take thousands and thousands of dollars from us. They dont show up when a delivery date is set, no call nothing. Then good luck getting ahold of them. Then we do finally get ahold of them and tell them that we want a refind because after months they obviously never planned on fulfilling the contract. We tell them to give us a refind and you would think that they would apologize and try to make it right..... nope! They said ok but we are keeping your down payment wven though they are the ones that broke the contract. Do not trust this company. Greed is ugly.

Prove it! If you are such a stand up company then deliver it by the end of December

So far all lies. Worst purchasing experience of my life. Every week is a new excuse. I placed my order sept. 2 and was told all good 4-6 weeks then 20 days later they call and say no gotta put down 60% and its 6-8 weeks. I wanted to cancel and they told me if i put the money down i would have it by Halloween. After that they say they cant find welders now they cant get installers. Then they tell me nov 10. Today They call say maybe nov 16.

For months they've been coming to do repairs, they schedule and never show, wife's on the phone with them now trying to schedule a forth no call no show!
