NC carports took my deposit waited 8 weeks and then decided to inform me I was responsible to have a lift on site for installation. I was uncomfortable with renting a lift because what if they didn’t show up, and if anything happened to the lift I rented then what happens? They agreed to rent the lift if I paid $3200. I paid the additional money, the lift never showed up during installation. They called me to inform me they couldn’t get the lift and the $3200 would be for extra labor because they couldn’t get one. Tell me how a reputable company doesn’t even have the tools required to do the work they said they could do? If you’re buying anything of size I would find a company that actually has the tools to do it, and someone who isn’t going to cheat you out of 3200 extra dollars over the original quote. They couldn’t put up the building without a lift until they got my money. Then the labor was magically as much as a lift, I think not.
We saved for years to add a metal building to our property and chose to work with Premium Steel Structures (dealer) and NC Carports & Garages (installer). Unfortunately, our experience has been extremely disappointing from start to finish, and I want to share the details so others can make an informed decision.
From the beginning, we encountered multiple errors on invoices and had to correct them ourselves. We clarified placement details for the 10'x10' doors and the lean-to porch several times, both in writing and over the phone. We were specifically told by Premium Steel Structures that the 10' doors could be moved onsite and that the porch placement “would not be a problem” and would be adjusted by installers at the time of installation.
Based on these assurances, we signed drawings that did not reflect the final layout we were promised — because we were told repeatedly that the crew would handle these adjustments onsite.
When installation finally happened (months after our foundation was ready due to a scheduling error), the crew arrived with none of the placement notes or instructions we had discussed. We were then informed — on installation day — that the 10'x10' doors could not be moved because they were welded at the factory, and that the lean-to had to be placed at the end of the building for structural support. These limitations had never once been disclosed to us before installation.
The result:
- The lean-to / porch was installed in the wrong location
- The 10' doors were installed in an incorrect location when we were repeatedly told was flexible
- We now have to move electrical and pour additional concrete to work around the incorrect placement
- Neither Premium Steel Structures nor NC Carports & Garages has accepted responsibility, even though the incorrect information came directly from their representatives
We relied on the expertise and guidance of both companies, only to be met with contradictions, missing communication, and after-the-fact explanations that were never shared during the planning phase.
To spend this much money on a project we looked forward to for years, only to be left with additional expenses and a building that does not match the placement we worked so hard to clarify, is incredibly disheartening.
I hope our experience helps future customers approach this company with caution. If you move forward with them, get everything in writing, question every assurance, and understand that the information given by their dealer may not match what the installation team will deliver.
So far they dont even deserve 1 star. Paid our deposit in March. It's August and still no carport. We have been given 3 install dates only to have them all cancelled and currently dont have a reschedule date. We are never able to connect with our scheduler, shes on lunch, on another call, just stepped away, not avaialble blah blah blah! Wish I'd looked at their reviews first as this seems to be how they conduct business. LOTS of other similar complaints
**update** after reaching out in August with an honest email to Jeffery the general manager at Boss buildings things started moving and we Finally got our cartport in ealry September, six months after paying our Deposit! The installers did a great job very quickly. They arrived in the early evening and worked for several hours getting the frame up. Back early the next moring and had it done by early afternoon. LOTS of screws (about 2 lbs!) and cigarette butts left behind, but otherwise happy with the final result.
Absolutely the worse company to deal with. We ordered in August 12, 2025. They told us we’d have a carport in 6-8 weeks. It’s December 20, 2025. We are just now getting it installed. The middle man was Capital Carports/Jamie. He wouldn’t take our calls when we tried to check on the delay. We had to call him from a number he didn’t recognize before we could get him to talk to us. Horrible!! Don’t waste your money, energy or time. The only redeeming factor were the installers. They were awesome and did an excellent job. Maybe NC Carports and Garages needs to cut out the middle man. All in all, we would not use them ever again. When you spend the money we did you expect better service, honesty and communication. I’d give them a negative star if I could. Don’t use them!!!
